Well this is my first blog post ever. My guess is no one is reading this but whatever. So lots of people have knitting blogs so I am going to try and start a tatting blog. What is tatting you may ask. Well it is also called shuttle lace and you can learn more about it here. I once saw a woman tatting in an airport and thought it looked really cool. My MIL had some sheets that her mother had tatted and I said I thought it would be neat to learn how to tat but I was having a hard time find supplies and instructions. So for Christmas she got me two books, some shuttles and some thread. I got hooked. My husband makes fun of me for trying hand crafts with progressively smaller thread. True tatting thread is really thin and after working with crochet thread, I have finally gotten up (down?) to working with real tatting thread. I'm currently trying to do two projects and have already found a third I want to do. I guess my knitting habits have spilled over into my tatting. At least tatting thread is cheaper than yarn and doesn't take up too much space. My entire "stash" takes up all of a small bag as opposed to my yarn stash which now has it's own piece of furniture. My first project is a set of eggs covered in tatting. The patter can be seen here. I am hoping to give a set to my mom and to my MIL as little Easter presents. I am having a hell of a time getting the tatting to be the right size to fit around the eggs. I'm on attempt number three. I might just give up and make lots of butterflies and flowers and just glue them on. At least its a little more interesting than just dyed eggs.
My ultimate goal with tatting is to design some more modern patterns. I am in my 20s and just don't have much of a use for doilies. I think it would be really fun to design some tatted lingerie. Hence the blog title. I would really like to tat for tit :)
One day soon I'll post picture of my stuff, if I ever actually finish anything.

Hi Becky -- it's me, Brigid '78. I followed the link to the tatted Easter eggs. Did you accomplish yours?
I've used solid 3-d objects as foundations for knotless netting creations -- f'rinstance, a winebottle cork as the foundation for an owl.
nb. the only reason I'm using my gmail addie is because that's what blogspot will accept. Should you want to talk about any of this stuff, use my brigidmh@indy.rr.com address.
